German Expressionist films,French films, crime dramas, and Post-WWII anxiety helped define Noir. Films often involved a tough male protagonist, a femme fatale, and an unforseen evil. Many consider the black and white films of the 1930s, 40, and 50s to be classic Noir with pieces like The Maltese Falcon (1941). Post/Neo Noir films include Blade Runner (1982)and Dark City (1998).
